A first-year vehicle tax (covering 12 months) is payable on all newly registered vehicles, and the rate paid is based on the vehicle's CO2 emissions. For zero (0g/km) emissions vehicles, the rate is currently £0.

For the second year onwards, vehicles must pay a standard vehicle tax rate based on their fuel type, currently £190 for Petrol & Diesel if paid annually and £180 for Alternative which includes Hybrid. For pure electric vehicles, the rate is currently £0. For more details. please visit the government website.

An additional £410 a year must be paid if a car has a 'list price' (published price before any discounts) of more than £40,000, payable for years 2 to 6 inclusive. This fee is not applicable for zero-emissions vehicles.
